Malteser International Americas
Malteser International Americas serves as the humanitarian arm of the Sovereign Order of Malta in the Western Hemisphere, upholding nearly a millennium of commitment to serving the sick and the poor. Malteser International Americas cares for the most vulnerable among us by providing aid to people affected by poverty, disease, conflict and disaster throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean.
Malteser International Americas is an affiliate of Malteser International, the worldwide humanitarian relief agency of the Order of Malta. It provides emergency aid and long-term support to vulnerable communities in crisis zones across the globe. In recent years, the White Cross Ball of New York City has also supported the work of Malteser International, including its critical response in Ukraine, where teams continue to provide medical aid, shelter, and psychological support, as well as support to those affected by war and disaster.
Sixty-five years ago, Malteser International was founded in Germany as the official relief organization for the Order of Malta, to further its mission of helping those most in need. As the Order’s worldwide humanitarian relief agency, Malteser International provides aid in response to natural disasters, epidemics, armed conflicts, and more. Since 1956, Malteser International has helped hundreds of thousands of people in more than 35 countries.
In 2008, Malteser International Americas was founded to further expand the organization’s mission in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean. Since then, MI Americas has provided critical aid during catastrophic events throughout the region, including Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, and Dorian; earthquake relief in Mexico and Haiti; refugee relief in Colombia; and more.
MI Americas works every day to guarantee a life of dignity to vulnerable people in the Americas who are affected by crisis, migration, and malnutrition. Its approach is not just offering humanitarian assistance, but to build and transform the lives of those who need it most.
